"STRENGTHENING THE FAMILY"

PAREF Southridge School in collaboration with Educhild Foundation, Inc. and some parent volunteers launched the New Parents Education Program (NPEP) last September 22, of school year 2007-2008. More than fifty couples went through this new program for parents.
The implementation of this program is part of Southridge's commitment to make its vision for parents, "The parents are the primary educators of their children" a reality.
The overall objective of the NPEP is to lay the foundation for an effective partnership and collaboration between the two pillars of the child's education: parents and the school, to achieve a holistic development of the child. The program also aims to equip all Southridge new parents with proper basic parenting skills using time-tested methods adapted to the modern times.
The program consists of five modules namely, Deliberate Parenting, Dignity of the Person, Marital Relations, Home-school Collaboration, and Family Visioning. These modules are run by well-trained moderators and facilitators.
The PAREF board's newly formulated policy to require all new parents to attend the program is to ensure that all PAREF parents will have the necessary fundamental knowledge & formation in educating their children to live in consistency with PAREF principles. Under this policy, Prep and New Parents have three years to fulfil this requirement.
The first batch of participants completed the program last February 23, 2008. The participants had these to say about the program: "very informative and helpful", "very interesting style of discussion", "worth attending", "very useful", "we had fruitful Saturday mornings and very indwelling ones", "very good interaction because of the case method", "the module was quite rich and relevant".
The very positive feedback pushed Southridge and Educhild to make some adjustments to further improve the program. The next batch will start this July for school year 2008-2009!
