Latin
Latin is an introduction to the study of the Latin language and Greco-Roman and/or Christian Roman culture. It encourages students to learn basic functions of the language, become familiar with some elements of its culture and increase their understanding of English. Emphasis is placed on the development of skills in reading and comprehension of adapted Latin texts.
Integration of other disciplines, with special emphasis on English Language Arts, is ongoing throughout the course. The Latin prayers are also included in the curriculum.
Goals
- Improve the students' mental order and discipline, attention to details, analytical skills, memory, and accuracy and precision in thinking and expression.
- Provide the students with a very effective tool that facilitates the learning of major modern European languages.
- Provide students with opportunities to appreciate classical Roman mythology, history, literature, and culture in order to acquire a universal outlook of man, his life, and his final end.
- Make them familiar with and appreciate the language of the Catholic Church through learning basic prayers and reading selected passages.
