Social Studies

Social Studies is the integrated study of the social sciences and the humanities to promote civil competence. Social Studies provides coordinated systematic study drawing upon such academic disciplines as history, geography, economics, political science, religion, philosophy, archaeology, and anthropology.

The Social Studies Program aims at the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for successful living in human society. Of all areas in the curriculum, this subject is the most "human" in that it zeroes in on the human being and his "humanizing" undertakings. While other areas contribute to the over-all goal, Social Studies has a direct responsibility in this regard. As part of the humanizing and socializing process, the program helps in equipping the learner with experiences in community and social living skills. To ensure that knowledge, skills, attitudes and values are used for beneficial ends, the learners not only internalize these but are given opportunities in school to externalize them in concrete behavioral applications in the real world.
